Instructional Design Flexibility at Your Fingertips

Our built-in Content Structure is fairly comprehensive and covers a wide range of reusable learning types (RLTs). Whether you favour a specific psychological theory of learning (behaviourism, cognitivism, constructionism) or a mixed approach, you will have at your disposal an expansive variety of options to meet your instructional design needs. This Content Structure provides three different types of SCOs that were designed to let elearning teams hit the ground running.

  1. Introduction - This type of SCO includes everything you need to introduce a concept or series of topics including two exciting types of hooks: Picture Book Hook and Video Hook.
  2. Lesson - Ensuring your elearning content is both informative and engaging can be achieved through the use of this Lesson. Authors will have the option to create pages of information with media or to insert activities to help transfer particular skills or knowledge.
  3. Assessment - Tracking the success of the both the learner and the elearning content can be achieved through the Assessment. Assessment options go beyond the standard multiple choice questions to include simulations, games and assignments - all passing SCORM compliant scores to the LMS.

Pedagogies Galore!

Whether you're a fan of the ADDIE model, Rapid prototyping, The Dick and Carey Systems Approach Mode or another popular model, our built-in Content Structure is flexible enough to support them all.

Author a Lesson in Minutes!

Semantically authoring elearning materials doesn't have to be difficult. In Thinking Cap Author, the interface for editing elearning materials is customizable. These interfaces are called “Content Structures” and are much like Word, but customized to your elearning material. Instead of having styles, like "Heading 2", "Body Text" or "Table Grid 1", there are elements such as "Subheading", "Concept" or "Multiple Choice Question". These elements describe the content, not the layout.

Click and type your way to your first SCO in minutes… Our built-in Content Structure is so easy to use that authors will be able to effortlessly add learning activities and assessments by simply clicking on the links in the template and choosing what they wish to add.

Dynamic Delivery Templates Out of the Box

Delivery Templates define how the content of the elearning materials should be displayed to the learners. The templates are used to preview your content in web browsers, on mobile devices, or as a PDF for printing purposes. The default delivery templates that come built-in with Thinking Cap Author have been designed to be easy to read and interactive.

Customizable

Each delivery template is customizable to your organization’s branding. You have the option to upload a logo and select the overall template colours and the fonts. This branding is consistently reflected in every element on the page.

Targeting Different Delivery Platforms

There are two templates that come bundled with Thinking Cap Author for our built-in content structure.

  • SCORM PIF – Web template for previewing and use when exporting to an LMS
  • Print PDF – PDF template for previewing and use when exporting to print

Dynamic Interactive Activities

While most elearning is text and images, learning materials generated with these new templates can include many built in interactive activities, such as scenarios, drag and drop matching activities, and custom simulations.

Variety and Flexibility - Who Could Ask for More?

In the built-in Content Structure you'll find a wide range of reusable learning types (RLTs) to help you author dynamic and engaging elearning content.
